Whether it be cognitive, learning, neurodevelopmental, adaptive functioning, or personality, Mind on Health has a range of formal and diagnostic evidence-based child and adult assessments to suit your needs.
Available Assessments
Behavioural assessments: These assessments typically involve behaviour monitoring and observation which is conducted at the psychologist’s office or at a client’s school. Behavioural assessments allow the Psychologist to evaluate behaviours and customise interventions for more positive outcomes.
These sorts of assessments are often requested by doctors, parents, and schools to help diagnose Autism and other behavioural disorders (e.g., ADHD).
Cognitive Assessments: These consist of in-depth evaluations across various cognitive domains to determine an intelligence quotient (IQ). A cognitive assessment can be used to determine how well someone is currently performing in areas that are crucial to general intelligence and can help someone identify their cognitive weaknesses and strengths. We use the WISC-V (Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition) for clients under 16 years of age and the WAIS-IV (Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition) for clients older than 16 years of age. These are frequently used to support a doctor’s diagnosis and course of therapy and typically take 2 hours to administer. Additionally, student cognitive assessments can help with funding and school-based interventions.
Learning Assessments: These involve an in-depth evaluation of a person’s cognitive ability and level of academic achievement. These assessments (WIAT III – Wechsler Individual Achievement Test) will show whether a student is functioning academically in line with their potential and will shed light on the child’s cognitive and academic strengths and limitations. These assessments are used to diagnose learning disorders and to rule out behavioural barriers. Finally, the data gathered from these evaluations will support recommendations for the best ways to academically support each individual client.
Neurodevelopmental Assessments: Neurodevelopmental disorders are impairments of the growth and development of the brain or central nervous system. Some of the most known neurodevelopmental diagnoses are Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity disorder, and Specific Learning Disorders (see learning assessment). These diagnoses can affect emotions, learning ability, self-control, behaviour, and memory and they often unfold as an individual develops and grows. Mind on Health have assessment batteries to investigate or rule out the presence of Autistic Spectrum conditions, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and learning difficulties. Please see below for our fee schedule for assessments.
Our Assessment and Report Process:
- Clinical Interview: To understand the purpose of the assessment, gather background information, and decide which types of assessments and tests are most appropriate to conduct, a clinical interview is first scheduled. This makes it possible for reports to specifically address the key questions and concerns.
- Custom Quotation: Now that we know your specific needs, we can provide you a more accurate quote for the assessment and report. Payment may be provided in a series of instalments when each assessment or test is completed, or in full prior to the report’s production and publication.
- Formal Assessment: Once the quotation is accepted by the client, and any third-party funding is approved, an appointment will be made for the formal assessment and testing. To better understand the client’s strengths and challenges, clients will be required to complete a variety of tasks and/or questionnaires as needed.
- Scoring and Reporting: The Psychologist then scores the test/s, collates the information, and produces a report. This may take between 2 and 3 weeks.
- Feedback and Planning: Upon completion of the report, a feedback and planning appointment will be scheduled between the Psychologist and the client, parents, carers, or other stakeholders as needed. Any potential diagnoses and/or findings reached by the psychologist will be discussed. The psychologist can assist in organising further support for the client and will also suggest any beneficial therapies or future actions.
**Note: Assessment packages may be modified by the treating Psychologist dependent on clinical judgment following the initial interview. Additionally, assessment packages can be combined if multiple diagnoses are suspected (e.g., autism spectrum disorder and ADHD combined).
