The parent child attachment relationship is seen to be one the most important predictors of later development. It has also been linked to ‘individual differences in many characteristics, such as cognition, behaviour, social skills, emotional responses and personality’ (Malekpour, 2007). Whilst there is no such thing as ‘perfect parenting’, the way in which we manage our child’s emotions and the emotion’s that they evoke in us from our own personal experiences can help to determine the strength and security of this relationship, as well as set the foundation for our child’s successful development. See the attached article and videos about developing a secure attachment.
