Ben Ross

Psychologist

Ben is a registered psychologist who works with adolescents aged 12+ and adults across the lifespan. He has particular interests in trauma and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and also enjoys working with anxiety and panic, depression, stress, self-esteem and longstanding emotional or relationship patterns. Ben also provides therapy to clients with autism and ADHD.

Ben takes a genuine, down-to-earth approach to therapy. He wants clients to feel understood, while also helping them make changes outside the therapy room. Sometimes that means slowing things down, making sense of what’s happening and approaching things with more self-compassion. At other times, it means trying something practical, facing something difficult or gently challenging patterns that might be keeping someone stuck.

His approach is mainly informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR, alongside Schema Therapy concepts and formulation. Ben uses these approaches flexibly, with an emphasis on understanding what’s driving a person’s difficulties and helping them make progress towards the things that matter to them.

Ben has completed EMDRAA-accredited EMDR Basic Training and regularly uses EMDR in his clinical work, alongside additional training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD.

Ben has also co-authored peer-reviewed research examining psychological factors associated with attitudes towards psilocybin-assisted therapy, published in the Journal of Psychedelic Studies (2023). DOI: 10.1556/2054.2023.00264

Before becoming a psychologist, Ben worked in disability support and Lifeline crisis counselling, as well as in jobs outside mental health including factory work, retail, hospitality and lifeguarding. These experiences have shaped his practical outlook and help him connect with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

Outside work, Ben enjoys lifting weights, gaming, spending time with his dog, getting out into nature and relaxing with the people close to him.
